To celebrate our first Mixers on the Map event, we here at CultureMap teamed up with local nonprofit, Austin Pets Alive!, to host a fundraiser at Papi Tino's on Tuesday evening.
With great drink specials, never-ending appetizers, and plenty of happy adoptable canine friends on hand, we achieved the perfect happy hour environment with the added benefit of supporting a noble cause.
Thanks to all of our friends that came out to enjoy the fun and raise much-needed funds for Austin Pets Alive! to meet their mission of finding forever homes for Austin's animals, we can officially say our first foray into Mixing it up was an unqualified success.
Sandy Meyer (l) and Megan Meyer (r) wait patiently in the shade for the parade of puppies to come on through the patio at Papi Tino's.
The busy bartenders were shaking up the day's signature cocktail, the Don Amigo ? an ice-cold margarita with a Southern twist.
Friends keep cool in the shade while enjoying appetizers, drinks and good company. From left to right: Kate Nyquist, Chris Downey, Stacy Whitman, David Wheeler and Katherine Randow.
Francis Diep and Jeet Singh grabbed a seat at the big backdoor table to enjoy their happy hour beers.
Colby Swain and Kathryn Hamilton smile for the camera.
CultureMap's Veronica Castelo (l) and APA!'s Kristina Jakstas share a little bit about the purpose of the event and the mission of APA!
According to Jakstas, the summer is especially tough for animal shelters because of the increased costs in keeping animals from overheating. This year also showed a 50% increase in intake rates for APA!, meaning they need your help more than ever to meet the No-Kill standards of the city.
Of course, the puppies are the stars of the show. Kimmie is an adoptable friend of APA! who is benefiting from the socialization of events just like this one.
Animal lover Beth Brown poses with Kimmie, helping her to stay calm with all the excitable energy at this happy hour.
Wolfy is an adorable old fellow with a sweet disposition... and one tooth. He's been through a lot in his 10+ years, but he's the perfect adoptable companion for someone looking for a loyal, calm best friend.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a tiny baby to bring home, APA! has plenty of newborns on hand as well.
These two all-black chihuahua siblings arrived in a special delivery puppy pad-lined basket to the delight of everyone in attendance.
How can you say no to a tiny puppy face like this?
If you're interested in adopting any of the amazing pets at Austin Pets Alive!, now is the perfect time to do it. Visit them on their website to see who's available for adoption now, or visit them at the Town Lake Animal Shelter to meet them in person.
Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Mixers on the Map event, to Austin Pets Alive! and to host Papi Tino's. It was a perfect blend of great people, great hospitality and a great cause.
We'll keep y'all posted on where (and with whom) we'll be showing up next!
