I have a son and daughter. My daughter has been on my policy since she was 16 because she was driving to and from work at this time, however, my son has not been added since he wasnt doing much driving, although he got his license when he was 16 too. He is now 18 and I now need to add him since he will be driving our truck to and from work. now am reading that this has been incorrect all this time and am worried. Will I get in some type of trouble for not having him on my policy all this time?
While it?s true that your son should have been added, I wouldn?t worry too much about it. Since he never had an accident, you lucked out. However, there is a possibility that you may need to change insurance companies. Your insurer might force you pay the added premium you avoided by not adding him the last two years. Of course, you could pay the extra premium if they insist upon it, but it?s a lot smarter to switch carriers than to pay all that added premium, especially when no harm came of failing to add him to the policy. Go ahead and add him now and see what the insurance company says. Everyone makes mistakes and this one could turn out to your benefit by letting him drive free of charge for two years.
